Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Training
Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is a comprehensive approach to equipment maintenance aimed at achieving flawless production with zero defects. The objective of TPM is to ensure that equipment operates without failures, slow runs, or defects. Additionally, TPM emphasizes creating a safe working environment through a zero-accident strategy.
Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) identifies and categorizes various types of waste, known as muda, which include setup and changeover time, equipment breakdowns, idling and minor losses, speed losses (cycle time inefficiencies), start-up quality issues, and in-process quality defects. TPM systematically addresses these issues through continuous improvement efforts, or Kaizen, to enhance overall efficiency.
To measure the success of TPM initiatives, a commonly used performance metric is Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). In a lean manufacturing or TPM environment, OEE provides valuable insights into equipment performance and identifies areas for potential improvement. For advanced TPM practitioners aiming for world-class performance, OEE serves as a benchmark for enhancement rather than a direct cost metric. Instead, Target Costing Management (TCM) is employed to guide cost-related decisions, while OEE helps in pinpointing opportunities for improving equipment effectiveness.
